Conewango Creek Watershed Association held its Annual Meeting at 7pm Tuesday Nov. 5, at the Jamestown Audubon Center.  The meeting began with an overview of the year’s activities given by Chairman Kim Sherwood.  Member and Director Kirk Johnson gave an update on a Leadership Warren County project he and his fellow “Leadership” classmates have been working on.  One of their projects was a Kiosk project to place three informational kiosks along the PA portion of the Conewango Creek that would inform the public about the Watershed and the Creek.  This presentation was followed by Jean Gomory from the Warren Co. Conservation District presenting information about an invasive aquatic weed new to Warren Co.  She gave background and history about the new invasive called “Water Chestnut.”

A brief business meeting was also held which included an election of directors. Jeff Diers from Cattaraugus County was elected to his first term.  Jeff is currently the Watershed Coordinator for Chautauqua Co. Dept. of Planning and Economic Development.  Elizabeth Dropp from Warren County was re-elected for her fourth term.   Elizabeth has been serving as the CCWA treasurer and serves on several committees.  She also works part time as an agricultural consultant.  All directors are volunteers and are not paid for their work on the board.  There are several director positions open if anyone has an interest in serving, contact their office using the contact information shown below.

The Volunteer of the Year was Sue Nielsen.  The main speaker was David Yoxtheimer, P.G. from Penn State’s Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research.  His topic was “Water Resource Management for Shale Energy Development.”

The Conewango Creek Watershed Association is a not-for-profit, IRS designated 501 c 3 organization.  The board consists of 9 to 12 directors.  Terms are staggered to provide continuity of programs.  The group can be contacted by calling 814-726-1441 or emailing info@conewangocreek.org.  You can find additional facts and membership information on their website at www.conewangocreek.org.  Memberships are a main income for CCWA programs and projects.  Donations can be made and memberships can be purchased on the website with major credit cards or a PayPal account.
